Infinity²

Dernière mise à jour :

The Graduate Program Infinity² offers in-depth, interdisciplinary training, from Master's to PhD level, based on research in subatomic physics, high-energy physics and astrophysics.

The Program

The Infinity² Graduate Program offers high-level outsourced modules taught by researchers and lecturer-researchers involved in major experiments in subatomic physics, high-energy physics and astrophysics. This program trains students in modern data processing methods (big data, data mining, machine learning, Bayesian statistics, AI, etc.), which are becoming essential to meet the major challenges posed by the avalanche of rich and complex data produced by the latest generation of instruments and observatories.

The program includes courses on data analysis and modelling, the discovery of data classification and partitioning methods, the acquisition of the fundamentals of supervised learning using neural networks, Bayesian strategies in data science, and high-performance computing.

The program emphasises progressive learning through modules and examples, followed by hands-on practical work. It is possible and recommended to pursue and do a PhD in Physical and Engineering Sciences.

Some key figures

  • 4 teaching units
  • opening in September 2024
  • 4+ Research Units (LP2i, LAB, Bordeaux INP, IOGS, etc.)
  • Collaboration with several international institutions and development of its international network

  •     Strong connection to a network of multidisciplinary researchers and experts: physicists, astronomers, astrophysicists, chemists, engineers, etc.
  •     Discover data classification and partitioning methods
  •     Acquire the theoretical foundations and practical methods of data analysis and modelling
  •     Learn the fundamentals of supervised learning using neural networks, with practical applications to real-life problems
  •     Programming in Python, R and Matlab
  •     Seminars, summer and winter schools, mentoring, individualised courses
  •     Strong interdisciplinary research dynamic and a learning environment offering students the opportunity to interact with a broad community.

Joining the program at Master's level

You can apply for admission to the Fundamental Physics and Applications (PFA) master's degree course in "Nuclei, Particles and Universe" (NPU) or "Nuclear Instrumentation" (NI).

Before applying :

  1. Check out the full details of the Master's program courses and the language in which they are taught.
  2. Find out about the registration fees and the cost of studying in Bordeaux.
  3. Identify the application procedure best suited to your situation. If you are an international candidate, visit this page to check if you are eligible for the Etudes En France (EEF) joint admission and visa application process.

Admission requirements:

  •   Hold a bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification (180ECTS)
  •   Have completed a previous course and obtained an entry qualification in the following fields of study: Subatomic Physics, High Energy Physics and Astrophysics
  •   Courses are taught in French. A good level of English (B2) is nevertheless desirable, as some external lecturers and summer schools/internships will be in English.

Funding opportunities :

Students who are accepted into the program at Master's level, regardless of their nationality, can request financial assistance for their incoming mobility project to attend courses at the University of Bordeaux.

Joining the program at PhD level

Are you enrolled in a PhD in subatomic physics, high-energy physics and astrophysics at the Physical and Engineering Sciences graduate school? The "Infinity² cohort" welcomes you and the program's Master's students, with the aim of strengthening links between young researchers and the rest of the scientific community.

  • to join the Infinity² cohort:

If you are working on a subject related to subatomic physics, high-energy physics or astrophysics, contact us! We will send you the application form and the Infinity² doctoral student charter. After review and approval by the programme steering committee, you will join the cohort!

2Chapeaux_Etudiants.png The program provides the members of the cohort with specific doctoral training, based on their needs, such as:

  •    seminars

  •    summer and winter schools

  •    participation in events related to subatomic physics, high-energy physics and astrophysics

  •    participation in the scientific day organized by the doctoral school of Physics and Engineering.

Enroll via ADUM to validate your training hours.

Globe.png Thinking about a mobility project, but need financial assistance?

If your project does not meet the requirements of other international mobility funding options, you can apply for support from the program in order to attend a conference, carry out research, attend a training course or summer school, or any other occasional event abroad.

  • contact us for more information on how we can support occasional international mobility projects.

Funding opportunities and PhD positions

Funding for an Infinity² PhD position can be obtained within the framework of the doctoral school of Physics and Engineering selection process.
