PhD student representatives

Your representation on the Graduate Research School committee and on the committee of your respective doctoral schools plays an essential role in shaping and improving your doctoral experience. Discover how you can take part and represent your interests as a member of the university community.

PhD STUDENT representatives on the Graduate Research School committee

The doctoral representatives on the Graduate Research School committee are elected by indirect ballot. A titular member and a substitute are appointed for each doctoral school to take part in meetings.

PHD STUDENT representatives on the doctoral school committees

Each doctoral school has its own election procedure, including provisions for substitutes and parity. Elections can take place in person or electronically. Dates and deadlines vary according to each doctoral school.

Doctoral School of Mathematics and Computer Science

Doctoral School of Economic Sciences, Management & Demography

4 titular members and 4 substitutes are elected.

  • The doctoral community elects 4 PhD students from the 3 schools: Economics (2 representatives), Management (1 representative), Demographics (1 representative).
  • For each representative, a substitute is elected in the same conditions as the titular member. Representatives are elected for a period of 24 months.
  • Voting takes place as follows:
    1. Submission of candidacies
    2. The day of the election, voting is from 9am to 5pm in the office of the doctoral school
    3. The president announces the results

4 titular members and 4 substitutes are elected.

  • The director of the doctoral school takes note of the interest shown by PhD students for the elections during the first meeting of the academic year.
  • The elections take place electronically.

  • Doctoral representatives are elected each year.
  • Candidates are elected by a first-past-the-post system.
  • Parity is taken into account in the distribution of seats.

Election calendar:

  • Online election in Adum: from 8:00 am on December 17 to 6:00 pm on December 18, 2024.

How to vote? From your Adum personal space, in the “Procedures” section: the “Vote for doctoral student representatives on the EDSP2 Council” module will be displayed on December 17.  Each voter will only see the pair representing his/her thesis specialty.

Voters are registered in their own right on the electoral lists (regularly registered to prepare a PhD degree and assigned to one of the research units attached to the doctoral school).
Each voter votes in his or her personal Adum space. Voting is secret.
Each voter has to vote for only one pair representing his or her thesis specialty.

PhD students are represented by five pairs attached to thesis specialties (one titular member and one substitute):

  • Education and training sciences - Physical and sporting activity sciences and techniques (STAPS)
  • Sociology - Ethnology specialising in social and cultural anthropology
  • Political science - Political science specialising in political economy - Language, languages, cultures, society
  • Public health - Pharmacology
  • Psychology - Cognitive sciences

Mandates and missions of PhD student representatives:

  • Participation in the extended doctoral school committee: once a month (every 1st Wednesday) or more if necessary. These meetings provide regular updates on the doctoral school's activities and the needs expressed by PhD students. They also aim to discuss existing and future arrangements and to review financial support, communication and colloquia.

  • Participation in Doctoral School's board meetings: at least 3 times per academic year, with one speaking slot on the agenda.

They are elected for 2 years, starting from January 1, 2025.

Doctoral School of Law

4 titular members and 4 substitutes are elected.

  • PhD students elect their representatives for a period of 30 months.
  • Voting takes place online via the PhD platform ADUM.

Doctoral School of Health and Life Sciences

  • Elected representatives sit on the Graduate Research School committee for one year.
  • They help organise the Graduate Research School selection process (concours) and events taking place on the first day of the academic year.
  • Candidacies can be submitted by registered letter with acknowledgement of receipt, or by email, addressed to the president of the university. Download the form here.
  • Each list of candidates is based on equal representation and must alternate between a male and female candidate on each line. To be admissible, the list must include a number of candidates equal to the number of seats available for titular members and substitutes. The candidacy of a titular member must be submitted with that of their substitute.
  • Lists must be submitted with:
    • the original copy of the individual declaration of candidacy signed by each candidate, stating their ranking on the list,
    • a photocopy of their student card or of their certificate of enrollment.
