Nearly 500 PhD students joined the University of Bordeaux for their first year of PhD. The PhD welcome ceremony, including presentations and experience sharing, is an annual event which aims at welcoming them, providing key information and introducing all opportunities that can enrich their PhD journey.
After the kick-off of the ceremony by Roger Marthan, the Graduate Research School's Director, Seyta Ley-Ngardigal (Doctor in cell biology) and Armand Blondiaux (Doctor in neurosciences), kept the audience enthralled with two dynamic and inspiring presentations on the "My thesis in 180 seconds" format (scientific outreach contest). The attendees also discovered the theses, experience and advice of the four winners of the 2024 thesis prizes contest: Paola Aybar Jimenez ("Humanities and Social Sciences" award), Antonio Casares-Santos ("Science and Technology" award), Jeanne Neuffer ("Biology and Health" award) and Elise Clavé ("Special international jury" award).
Several offices of the university focussed on topics linked to research and opportunities available during the PhD: training, international mobility, scientific outreach, and innovation (with the Mature Your PhD+ awards). The student life center and the student health center provided information on daily life at the university. The ceremony ended up with a presentation about the "Women & Sciences" association.
The PhD students were also invited to the welcome evening for international researchers, organized by the International Researchers Welcome Office (BACI).
Welcome to the PhD students in their first year!
