The training office aims to help you reflect on your career goals throughout your doctoral studies, from defining a career path to developing a concrete action plan.
The career counseling is designed for PhD students enrolled at the University of Bordeaux. Whether you are in your first year or further along in your doctoral program, the Graduate Research School offers a supportive space to help you reflect on your career goals. The support provided ranges from defining a career path — including a primary path and an alternative path — to developing a concrete action plan to help you achieve your goals.
Our support services are organized into three categories:
career counseling sessions: starting in your first year, you can use these sessions to define your professional project and the corresponding training plan; during your doctoral path, you can review any changes to the project; and at the end of your doctoral path, you can discuss the practical aspects of applying for positions
thematic workshops: to develop your skills and identify resources that will help you achieve your career goals
career events: these events, which cover a wide range of topics, are designed to give you a broader view of the career paths available with a PhD and to provide you with the opportunity to meet relevant local professionals (doctors, companies, etc.)
Career counseling sessions provide an opportunity to discuss your career plans and concerns in a neutral and confidential setting. They offer an external perspective on your career plans and job application materials, as well as advice and resources tailored to your needs.
Are you wondering about your future career options after completing your PhD? Would you like some guidance in setting your goals? Do you feel your training plan could be improved? Not sure where to turn for resources to help you find funding, a job, or a postdoc position? These are all topics we could discuss during a career counseling session!
Whether you are just starting your PhD or about to defend your thesis, you can request a career counseling session. The appointment can take place via videoconference or on the Peixotto campus, A1 building, room 004.
Thematic workshops will be integrated in the transversal training program from the 2026-2027 academic year onwards. The workshops may cover topics such as the following (final list to be announced):
Registration for the workshops will be handled through ADUM (upcoming workshops will be posted there).
Is there a topic you think is missing? You can send an email at carriere.doctorat@u-bordeaux.fr.
These events are designed both to highlight the wide range of career paths available after a PhD and to foster connections with local stakeholders. Details regarding the dates and format will be announced throughout the 2026-2027 academic year.
